THE FIRST DECISION - WHERE TO START??
For a few months I’d been planning to travel and had got myself geared up for the idea.
I still hadn’t selected a destination though, to start my travels and deliberated on this for some time.
I believed that Southeast Asia was generally a good starting point for me though, for a few reasons:
- I’d never travelled alone and knew there would be many others in the same situation, so meeting people to travel with was likely to be easy
- I wanted to travel indefinitely and knew I could budget effectively
- The culture would be different from what I was used to and would push me out of my comfort zone and expose me to something new
- The history
- The food
Where should I start?
After carrying out some fairly loose research, I narrowed my options down to three potential starting points:
- Hanoi
- Bangkok
- Chiang Mai
As planned, I left it up to the dice to decide:
How it felt to roll the dice for the first time
Prior to rolling the dice, the idea of booking the first flight was a scary prospect.
As soon as I rolled it and saw the outcome though, it felt different all of a sudden. There was no reason to think about it. All I had to do was book the flight.
I booked it almost instantly.
The feeling was immensely liberating – the idea that the decision was now out of my hands and I had to – pun intended – roll with it!
I’m excited to see what the next dice throw has in store and when this will be. I hope you come along with me for the ride.
